GTCoP - Community of Practice Training for Gender Equality

The 17th Virtual Dialogue hosted by the UN Women Training Centre’s Community of Practice (CoP) explored the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on gender trainers and training for gender equality across the globe. This report summarizes the key findings of the dialogue - highlighting how gender trainers have navigated the pandemic, the challenges they have faced, the opportunities they have built on, and what they recommend for the future of transformative training for gender equality in a post-pandemic world.

This tool kit aims to assist development practitioners to ensure that gender perspectives are incorporated into development initiatives, and to monitor and evaluate gender equality results. Development practitioners can use this tool kit to ensure that gender perspectives are incorporated into development initiatives, and to monitor and evaluate gender equality results. The tool kit presents a menu of gender equality outcomes, results, and indicators that may be selected or adapted by users. While the tool kit focuses primarily on the sectors and strategic priorities of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Australia's aid programme, it is designed for a wider audience of development policy makers, planners, implementers, and evaluators. The tool kit will assist specialists in particular sectors to identify gender equality results and indicators; it may also be used by gender specialists who work across a range of sectors.

This compilation of practical resources for gender integration and mainstreaming in health policies, programs and institutions is designed as a companion to the IGWG website. The tools offered are instruments or methodologies that help users to collect and analyze information on gender roles, identities and relations and apply this information to make programs and health systems more equitable and effective. These tools are designed to move health practitioners, programme managers and policy makers from awareness and commitment to direct application and practice. 

The Save the Children Gender Equality Toolkit aims to enable the organization to put into practice - in programme strategy, planning, design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning - the Save the Children Principles for Gender Equalit. The toolkit is intended to demonstrate how to mainstream gender equality throughout our programs in order to enable high-quality, innovative programming, which results in the fulfillment of children’s equal rights, by: 

•  Providing effective and user-friendly tools for identifying and addressing gender inequalities across all stages of the program cycle; 
• Offering specific guidance and references for promoting gender equality across Save the Children’s thematic areas of focus; and 
• Showcasing promising practices from Save the Children programmes to learn from and build upon.

This Training of Trainers Manual has been designed for use by government, private, and NGO extension providers and rural development practitioners who will be planning and implementing village-level agricultural interventions to strengthen their capacity to integrate gender and nutrition sensitivity for men and women farmer groups engaged in markets. This manual has been adapted to meet the needs of extension workers who train lead farmers and famer groups engaged in markets, as well as other actors in the agricultural value chains such as traders, AgroVets, 1 and Community Business Facilitators (CBFs)2. While this manual has been adapted to the context of the Mid-west (Banke and Surkhet districts) and Far-west (Dadeldhura and Kailali districts) regions of Nepal, 3 it can also be used as a guide for trainers to adapt and modify to their distinct cultural and agricultural contexts.

This training manual is intended for international researchers, development practitioners and gender specialists in the livestock sector. Participants of this training should achieve five learning objectives, which are: 

1) Identify the components of a project planning cycle; 

2) Discuss the importance of integrating gender and nutrition into livestock research; 

3) Explore and apply tools and approaches to integrating gender and nutrition throughout the project planning cycle; a) Project design b) Data collection c) Data analysis d) Framing and reporting;

4) Discuss livestock projects and their success or lack of success in integrating gender and nutrition into project planning; and 

5) Demonstrate ways of integrating gender and nutrition into project examples using workshop tools and information.

This manual on nutrition-sensitive agriculture training is a tool for trainers to help  agriculture development agents to:

• Understand the importance of nutrition in decreasing morbidity and mortality, improving productivity and educational performance and national economies;
• Explain the relationship between agriculture and nutrition;
• Describe nutrition priority groups and the undernutrition cycle;
• Explain the concept of dietary diversity and what it means in practice;
• Conduct food demonstrations;
• Explain how to keep food safe by practicing safe handling, preparation and storage techniques (from farm to fork);
• Describe the type of interventions that promote nutrition-sensitive agriculture and how to integrate them into their daily activities; and 
• Use the tools to counsel farmers on nutrition-sensitive agricultural interventions.

This training module is intended to equip instructors with basic theory to train health workers in a life cycle approach to women’s nutrition. The purpose of this module is to explore issues regarding women’s nutrition: women’s nutritional status, causes of malnutrition, the effects of malnutrition on the intergenerational life cycle, the consequences of inadequate weight and height, micronutrient deficiencies, and interventions to improve women’s nutrition. The module also addresses the synergistic relationship between nutrition and HIV infection, the nutritional requirements of HIV-positive pregnant or lactating women and adolescent girls, and nutritional care and support of HIV-positive wome. Health workers should apply the knowledge and skills in negotiation and interpersonal communication to help mothers and caregivers care for their own nutritional needs and feed their infants and young children optimally. This training module is based on the Guidelines on Maternal Nutrition during Pregnancy and Lactation within the Context of HIV and AIDS developed by the Republic of South Africa Department of Health Directorate of Nutrition.

The Harmonised Training Package (HTP) is a a resource for trainers in the Nutrition in Emergencies (NiE) sector, providing them with information with which to design and implement a training course according to the specific needs of the target audience, the length of time available for training and according to the training objectives. It can be used as a stand-alone module or as combined modules depending on the training needs. 

Ce manuel de formation cible les apprenants adultes des réseaux de producteurs agricoles et des agents de santé et de nutrition communautaires au Sénégal afin d’illustrer le lien qui existe entre le genre et la nutrition. Plus précisément, il met l’accent sur la participation des hommes à la gestion de la nutrition et de la santé des ménages, encourage la participation des femmes à la prise des décisions au foyer et encourage le partage équitable des tâches liées à la nutrition.
