I Know Gender Course releases new module on Volunteerism

05 March 2018

United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme and UN Women training Centre are glad to announce the release of the new I Know Gender module on Volunteerism and Gender Equality. This interagency self-paced course, that introduces a gender perspective on over 15 different relevant topics, now addresses gender as a crosscutting issue in volunteerism, in the context of the development agenda for 2030, particularly SDG5 on gender equality.

The module will explore how voluntary action is an essential vehicle for the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals of Agenda 2030. Volunteerism is a concept that spans a vast array of activities at the individual, community, national and global levels. These activities include traditional forms of mutual aid and self-help, as well as formal service delivery. Integrating gender into volunteering practices increases its potential to contribute to peace and development efforts by creating important opportunities for social change, challenging traditional and unequal gender roles and facilitating the achievement of all other development goals.

This module is open to all UN Personnel, including UN Volunteers and development practitioners who wish to unlock the transformative potential of their volunteering activities to achieve gender equality, through awareness raising and knowledge enhancement. It is also available to general audiences who wish to take steps towards greater understanding of the topic.

Registration available all year at https://trainingcentre.unwomen.org/portal/
