We are delighted to announce that the 12th Virtual Dialogue hosted by the UN Women Training Centre's Community of Practice (CoP) will be on “Men, Masculinities and Training for Gender Equality”, involving a 2 week online forum discussion (6-20 June 2018) and a live Webinar with expert panellists (on 12th June, sign up now!).

This is an exciting opportunity for participatory reflection on what we mean by masculinities; why they are important to consider and why it is important to engage men in training for gender equality; and how we can facilitate men's engagement and address issues of masculinities through transformative training.

Please join us for the forum discussion and our live Webinar!

Dear CoP members,

Just a quick announcement to let you know that the discussion forum for the UN Women Training Centre's 12th Virtual Dialogue on "Men, Masculinities and Training for Gender Equality" is now open. Please join the discussions here

Here are some key questions to guide our discussions during this first week:

1. Why is it important to address men and masculinities through training for gender equality?

  • i. What do we mean by masculinities?
  • ii. Why is it important to engage men in training for gender equality? What implications does this have for transformative change through training?
  • iii. Why is it essential to take masculinities into account in training for gender equality? How does such an approach affect training’s transformative potential?

Please join the discussion! Feel free to also pose your own questions, this is a space for open debate and we hope all our CoP members will take part. You're welcome to post in English, Spanish or French.

For more information, have a look at this event's Concept Note. Please also remember to sign up for our live Webinar with expert speakers, scheduled for next Tuesday (12 June 2018, 10:00 NY time/16:00 Central European Time).

Thank you to all our CoP members who have contributed to the forum discussions and participated in our Webinar on the 12th of June! The excellent questions submitted by our audience sparked some very interesting discussions among our expert panellists. You can listen to the Webinar on the UN Women Training Centre's YouTube channel:

The Virtual Dialogue will remain open until the 20th of June, so I hope many more of you will be able to take part. Please join the debates through our forum discussion! (Please log in at https://portal.trainingcentre.unwomen.org/, then select "My Courses" and then "Community of Practice").

Due to some technical changes on the Training Centre's platform, a few of you have run into some glitches when entering the forum. If you need help, please consult this PDF with detailed instructions on how to access the CoP discussion forum here, or feel free to email ruya.leghari@unwomen.org). Today marks the fourth anniversary of UN Women's HeForShe campaign - do you believe the campaign has been successful in promoting more positive understandings of masculinities?

While our Virtual Dialogue is drawing to a close, we will keep this forum discussion open for the rest of this week (Sunday, the 24th inclusive) - so please continue the discussions here. Remember, everyone who contributes to the forum discussion will be credited in the final Virtual Dialogue Report!
