From 28 November – 2 December, UN Women held a pilot training course on Gender and Economics at the ITC-ILO in Turin (Italy. This course was developed in collaboration with the Economic Empowerment Section, the UN Women Training Centre, the Regional Office of Europe and Central Asia, the Regional Office of Asia and the Pacific, and in consultation with the Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office. This course aimed to strengthen knowledge in the area of gender and economics, in order to enhance the work of UN Women in the area of macroeconomics and public policy.

The 5-day face-to-face training included instructor and participant presentations, discussion sessions and lab sessions in a participatory process that looked to provide the following:

• (1) introduce participants to feminist economics in general and feminist approaches to macroeconomics, microeconomics and international economics;
• (2) expose participants to critical analyses of global and regional economic trends, including those related to economic crises;
• (3) enhance the skills of participants in formulating gender-responsive economic policy for programme implementation, policy making, and policy advocacy, and;
• (4) strengthen the capacity of participants to connect with and network with other development practitioners, scholars and policy makers.

This pilot workshop was offered to 16 participants from country offices from Africa, Asia Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe and Central Asia and Arab States regions. The course included the following modules:

• Module 1: Introduction to Economics
• Module 2: Introduction to Gender-Aware Economics and Methods of Analysis
• Module 3: Gender and Macroeconomics: theory and practice
• Module 4: Decent work, unpaid care work, and social protections
• Module 5: Gender, trade, investment and value chains development
• Module 6: Gender, public Finance, and Investing for gender equality
• Module 7: Economic Policy Making and the SDGs: How to reach the goals
