This paper examines some of the gendered impacts and readings of guns in the Caribbean region looking at the extent at which gun violence has affected Caribbean societies. It also delves into cultural and gender norms as well as socio-economic conditions which determine gun ownership and use and policy responses to the issue, as well as gender mainstreaming in security sector reform processes and civil society initiatives. The focus is on more urbanised societies in the Caribbean region, with a special focus on gun violence and responses in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.
