The UN Women Training Centre’s new Massive Open Online Course (MOOC): Gender Equality in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, provides an overview of the principles of gender equality, and the way in which they are integral to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Covering a range of key topics, such as the scope and trajectory of the SDGs, how gender equality relates to the broader international development agenda and how it is part of SDG indicators and targets; the course serves as a genuine introduction for beginners in the area of gender equality.
This self-paced course, produced as a set of 5 different video chapters, is designed to support gender equality advocates to contextualize and position their work within the SDGs, specifically on SDG5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. It can also assist people working on other SDGs to understand how gender equality is related to their work, what the entry points for promoting gender equality are, and how gender is integrated into the measurement criteria for the achievement of each SDG target.
This training was developed in collaboration with the UN System Coordination Division and the Bill&Melinda Gates Foundation.
In line with this launch, the UN Women Training Centre’s Community of Practice (CoP) is organising the Virtual Dialogue: SDGs and Training for Gender Equality (TfGE) to shed new light on how TfGE can support the achieving of the Agenda 2030. The Virtual Dialogue will be open for three weeks (starting Monday 5 November and finalising Friday 23 November 2018) through an online discussion forum free and accessible to everyone registered at the UN Women Training Centre’s online Community of Practice (CoP) platform. The discussions will be accompanied by a live webinar session in English on Wednesday 14 November, featuring world-renowned experts in the field such as: Dr. Sue Cavill, Co-author of Violence, Gender and WASH: A Practitioners Toolkit; Ellen Morris, author of the e-learning module Eradicating Energy Poverty and Building Sustainable Businesses; Ranjani Krishnamurthy, Co-author of Gender Equality and Sustainable Development Goals: A Trainer’s Manual; and Sophie Browne, Coordinator of Gender Equality in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development from UN Women Policy Division.
