The UN Women Training Centre is pleased to announce the Virtual Dialogue: Understanding Change through Training for Gender Equality, which aims to discuss the change which training for gender equality can aspire to achieve; the change it has achieved to date; and how this change can be assessed and evaluated.

UN Women Training Centre is pleased to announce registration for the Open Online Lecture Series on Care Economy. A series of open webinars to enhance awareness and understanding on the critical place care work occupies in development, as well as the need to create policies aimed at creating a fair and equal social organization of care to advance human development, gender equality and women’s empowerment.

This past 3-7 April in Geneva, the UN Women Training Centre delivered the face-to-face portion of a Gender Mainstreaming training to 22 participants after completing the online session that ran from 6-31 March. The training seeked to strengthen capacity of UN System, development organizations, governments and other stakeholders to mainstream gender in public policies, programmes and projects and institutions and organizations.

The UN Women Training Centre is pleased to present the 2nd Version of the Manual “Gender on the move: working the migration-development nexus from a gender perspective,” which aims to build the gender analysis capacity of those working in the field of migration and development to bring about a model of development that is centered on people, human rights, and on the principle of gender equality.

The UN Women Training Centre is proud to announce registration is now open for the training course Transformative Leadership for Gender Equality and Women's Rights, which will be held from 03-07 July 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland (register before 19 May 2017). The objective of this course is to strengthen capacity and knowledge of leaders and managers to advance gender equality, women’s empowerment, and women’s rights agendas within their organizational contexts.The course seeks to strengthen leaders’ and managers’ use of gender-inclusive and transformative leadership principles and practices to address institutional gender biases and promote commitments to gender equality and women’s rights.

The Training Manual on Gender and Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) is a comprehensive tool that field facilitators can use to approach Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) from a gender perspective in order to increase participants’ understanding of FGM/C as a harmful practice and a form of violence against women and girls (VAWG).

In order to meet its overarching remit and guiding principles, the Training Centre is committed to producing evidence-based, practice-informed research on pertinent topics for the field of training for gender equality. Building on recent publications (Typology, Compendium of Good Practices, etc.), the Training Centre has recently produced three Working Papers – on Theory of Change, Feminist Pedagogies and Quality. The papers can be read together or individually. Their aim is to inform Training Centre practice, as well as to promote debate and exchange among key stakeholders and practitioners in the field of training for gender equality.

In some communities of Western Kenya, female genital mutilation (FGM) is still practiced widely. For example, the prevalence is as high as 84 per cent among the Kisii. While the rate of FGM among women aged 15 – 45 years is declining, we are seeing an alarming increase in the practice among younger girls aged 8 – 14 years [2]. In spite of national and global advocacy, the practice continues to be promoted by men and women—women who discourage their sons from marrying “uncut women”, men who believe in the myths surrounding the practice and elders who justify it as a cultural rite of passage. Women and girls often succumb to peer pressure and agree to undergo FGM as they fear being outcasts otherwise.

The UN Women Training Centre and the UN System Coordination Division is proud to present the first module of the I Know Gender: How-To Series titled “Implementing Gender Equality Markers”. Gender Equality Markers serve as a tool to track trends in investments made by organizations in gender equality and women’s empowerment outcomes. This module on Implementing Gender Equality Markers provides a solid introduction to gender equality markers – what they are, what they can and cannot measure and how to establish a gender equality marker in your entity (including dealing with challenges).

The UN Women Training Centre is proud to announce registration is now open to the course Gender Equality at the Local Level in Latin America and the Caribbean, which will take place from 3 April - 2 June 2017. This course aims to improve participants’ understanding about the importance of human rights and gender equality in democratic local governance and inclusive development. Participants will be able to identify strategies that are adapted for their local context to promote gender equality in local development.
