Colombia Chancellery Receives Training on Gender Issues

14 November 2016

On 3rd November 2016, the UN Women Training Centre delivered a training to personnel from the Colombia Foreign Affairs Ministry on Gender Issues. The training aimed to enhance knowledge and skills on basic gender concepts, while informing on the current situation of women at a national and regional level, and providing tools to include a gender perspective in the daily work of personnel from the Colombian Foreign Affairs Ministry.

New I Know Gender Module on Trade and Gender Equality

The UN Women Training Centre is pleased to introduce the module Trade and Gender Equality, a new module part of the "I Know Gender" online self-paced course. This module was developed in collaboration with the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and aims to enhance knowledge on the relationship between trade and gender equality.

Training Centre Holds Gender Focal Points Training in Colombia

This past 1-2 November, the UN Women Training Centre, in collaboration with UN Women Colombia Office delivered the face-to-face portion of a Gender Focal Points (GFP) training to 45 participants from the UN System and Local Coordination Teams in Colombia. This is the first national platform that is comprised of UN agencies, civil society and international NGOs working within the territory on gender issues. Through this training, the International Cooperation Working Group on Gender (MG, acronym in Spanish) and the Interagency Gender Group (GIG, Spanish acronym) seek to strengthen the capacity of Local Coordination Teams on women's rights and gender equality and to enable follow-up actions and positioning the theme with different actors in the local context.

First Certification course of Facilitators for Participatory Gender Audit in Spanish

This past 24-28 October, the UN Women Training Centre, in collaboration with ITC-ILO hosted the finalization of the first Certification Course of Facilitators for Participatory Gender Audit (PGA) of the International Labour Organization (ILO). The first online phase of this course took place online from 22 September to 21 October, while this face-to-face portion was held in-house in Santo Domingo.

Virtual Dialogue on Professionalization of Gender Trainers

The UN Women Training Centre is pleased to announce the Virtual Dialogue: Professionalization of gender trainers, which aims to to discuss the professionalization of gender trainers – reflecting on how trainers are currently trained, developed or “made”; what qualifications they should have; what criteria and credentials they should meet; what kinds of professional ethics and standards they should aspire to uphold; how this should be decided and by whom; and what the opportunities and limitations of such classifications are.

Pilot Training Workshop on Gender and Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting in Kenya

This past 4-6 October, the UN Women Training Centre and the Ending Violence Against Women Section delivered a workshop on Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) to country level programmers and practitioners. The workshop aimed to leverage knowledge from and embed broader prevention approaches that address gender inequalities and violence against women and girls in tailoring programming approaches to addressing Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting.

Training Workshop on Care Economy and Gender Equality in Viet Nam

From 14 – 16 September 2016, the UN Women Training Centre jointly with the UN Women Country Office in Viet Nam delivered a training workshop on care economy and gender equality to more than 40 national partners from the government, civil society organizations, and UN agencies in Viet Nam. The 3-day training workshop aimed to enhance awareness, knowledge and understanding among policy makers, practitioners, and researchers in Viet Nam on the critical place that unpaid care work occupies in development and on the importance to recognize, reduce and redistribute the unequal burden of care work on women. The training equipped the audience with skills and tools for analyzing and identifying types of interventions and policies for a fair and equal social organization of care.

Community of Practice now available on our eLearning Campus!

The UN Women Training Centre is pleased to announce the online Community of Practice (CoP)on Training for Gender Equality is now part of our eLearning Campus. This online community and platform aims to support the informed discussion and reflection on the current trends of training and capacity development for gender equality, the collection and dissemination of good practices and the identification of institutions, opportunities and resources for training for gender equality at the global level.

Virtual Dialogue on Theory of Change and Feminist Pedagogies

The UN Women Training Centre is pleased to announce the Virtual Dialogue: Theory of Change and Feminist Pedagogies in Training for Gender Equality, which aims to articulate theories of change for training for gender equality; and how feminist pedagogical principles can be applied to training to evoke such change. This Virtual Dialogue will take place online from 3 - 21 October, 2016 on the UN Women Training Centre Gender Equality Community of Practice (CoP).

Training on Gender Mainstreaming with UNDP Dominican Republic Office

On 4 August 2016, the UN Women Training Centre delivered a training to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Dominican Republic country team on Gender Mainstreaming in Programmes and Projects. Participants first completed the Spanish version of the online self-paced course I Know Gender, which provided an introduction to gender concepts, issues, and international frameworks, before focusing gender mainstreaming in the face-to- face portion of the training.
