GTCoP - Community of Practice Training for Gender Equality

This training module aims to reduce gender disparities in science and technology in Africa, as well as to enable women to embark upon science careers in the quest towards “self-dependence” and poverty reduction. The counselling and guidance materials included in the manual cover science education, presenting an overall picture of women in science – including beliefs, attitudes, cultural and societal pressures, and examples of famous female scientists. The materials also include career guidance tools; discuss ways to reduce the under-representation and under-achievement of girls in science and technology; and aim to motivate girls to pursue education and careers in these fields.

This training manual examines why a gender perspective is crucial for understanding the complexity of child labour. It highlights the impact of gender on children’s options, both in terms of opportunities available for boys and girls, as well as the resources at hand. It also aims to support facilitators to promote awareness and understanding of child labour and gender equality among young people, particularly adolescents. The manual includes exercises that enable young people to express themselves through different forms of artistic media, such as drama and the visual arts, in a manner specific to their own cultures and traditions.

This manual aids professionals in the field to pursue a gender-balanced approach to programmes that promote micro-, small- and medium sized enterprises, thus contributing to the empowerment of women entrepreneurs. It outlines strategies, instruments and practical examples, while discussing replicable ideas, approaches and tools that support women’s entrepreneurship. The first part of the manual focuses on the project cycle – presenting strategic approaches useful for planning, implementing and monitoring the promotion of women’s entrepreneurial activities. Part two presents concrete tools, such as worksheets and questionnaires. These are general outlines which practitioners can adjust to meet the needs of specific projects.

This document recounts the experience of a training workshop that focused on gender mainstreaming in NGOs, gender and human rights, and gender in politics. Held in Malaysia in 2007, the training was conducted by the Women’s Development Collective (WDC) for the Young Progressives South East Asia (YPSEA) and its partner, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES). The document outlines the workshop's training sessions; the importance of gender and human rights to YPSEA’s work; key training activities and methods used; the results of participants’ evaluation of the workshop; and FES’ feedback to strengthen the training programme.

Este manual es una herramienta de aprendizaje que pretende reforzar el liderazgo, el empoderamiento, la participación y las estrategias de comunicación de las mujeres en diferentes esferas y espacios de toma de decisiones. Pretende habilitar a sus participantes en los talleres para que desarrollen los mejores medios para poder comunicarse, escuchar, construir consensos y fomentar la asociación para el aprendizaje en el trabajo, el hogar y en las comunidades. El documento está diseñado para ser adaptable a varios contextos y ofrece orientación a los facilitadores; presenta doce sesiones de capacitación sobre diversos temas relacionados con el liderazgo de las mujeres; e incluye una serie de apéndices con orientación adicional, además de recursos y herramientas adicionales.

This manual is a learning tool that aims to bolster women’s leadership, empowerment, participation and communications strategies in different spheres and decision-making spaces. It seeks to enable participants to develop effective ways of communicating; listening; building consensus; and fostering partnerships for learning at work, in the home and within their communities. It is designed to be adaptable to a range of contexts. The document offers guidance for facilitators; twelve training sessions on diverse themes related to women's leadership; and a series of appendices featuring additional guidance, resources and tools.

This information pack on programme and project cycle entry points for gender mainstreaming is intended to be used in training settings, or by individual readers. It highlights instances in the programme/project cycle where a gender perspective should be applied and offers resources on planning and major thematic issues. The pack also features case study exercises; a gender mainstreaming glossary; information on strategy development and advocacy; and addresses issues of information, communications and knowledge sharing. Originally developed to respond to UNDP’s needs, the pack is designed to be readily adaptable to different needs across a variety of organisations.

These guidelines seek to bring gender to the centre of development cooperation programmes and assist DAC members in fulfilling the commitments of the Beijing Platform for Action. Reflecting the change from a "women in development" approach to a broader gender approach, the guidelines offer recommendations for donors and other stakeholders; take stock of gender equality’s role in development partnerships and development cooperation approaches; highlight the links between gender equality and other economic, social and environmental development goals; and outline ways of monitoring progress on the guidelines’ implementation.

This resource pack aims to inspire thinking and discussion around gender budget initiatives. It showcases how such initiatives – both inside and outside governments – can transform gender inequalities. The pack features an overview report outlining key issues and highlighting key features common to the success of gender budget initiatives. It also includes a supporting resources collection featuring summaries of key texts, tools, case studies and institutional contacts. These showcase lessons learned from the implementation of gender budget initiatives across the world, and draws out available tools to support their successful implementation.

This training guide builds programme managers’ and staff’s capacities to address the HIV and STI-related needs of pregnant and post-partum women through integrated HIV and STI services. It focuses on participatory training methods and approaches; includes a detailed curriculum with session guides; provides information to help trainers understand each exercise; and features appendices containing additional materials. The training seeks to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to help clients assess their own HIV and STI service needs; provide clear and correct information to clients; and assist clients in making informed decisions about HIV and STI risk reduction.

This resource pack describes existing materials and practices employed globally to train health professionals on abortion care for young women. It outlines data gathered in a survey of Ipas staff, consultants and partners; discusses findings from a literature review; and proposes recommendations for the development of a training toolkit for health professionals on abortion care, entailing guidance, training and educational materials. The pack is geared towards young people (aged 13-24) and stakeholders who work with adolescents on sexual and reproductive health issues – including NGO staff, volunteers, youth outreach workers, teachers and health service providers.
