GTCoP - Community of Practice Training for Gender Equality

This Handbook is intended to encourage parliamentarians to take an active part in stopping human trafficking. It contains a compilation of international laws and good practices developed to combat human trafficking. It offers guidance on how national legislation can be brought in line with international standards. It outlines measures to prevent commission of the crime of trafficking in persons, to prosecute offenders and to protect victims. It also contains advice on how to report on this crime and how to enlist civil society in the cause.

This Guide, issued by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), focuses on how civil society can follow up on recommendations of United Nations (UN) human rights mechanisms and mandates or bodies. The Guide explains ‘follow-up’ and ‘implementation’, and describes methods and activities that civil society actors (CSAs) can use. It reviews existing follow-up procedures and practices of UN human rights mechanisms and how CSAs can participate. It also refers to tools to facilitate civil society follow-up activities.This Guide is primarily intended for CSAs working at the national level. It is available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

This handbook provides basic guidance to all OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Missions (EOM) on monitoring women’s participation in electoral processes. It is designed as a working tool that sets out practical steps  to integrate a gender perspective into EOM's work. It aims to assist all EOMs in identifying and assessing the various elements that may impact on women’s equal political participation.

Program P ("P" for "Padre" and "Pai" in Spanish and Portuguese, respectively, meaning "Father") is a direct and targeted response to the need for concrete strategies and action steps to engage men in active fatherhood globally from pregnancy until early childhood. This resource identifies best practices on engaging men in maternal and child health, caregiving, and preventing violence against women and children, through the lens of gender equality. Though the main focus of Program P is to engage men via the public health sector, the manual also provides tools and resources for individuals and organizations that want to work more generally with men as caregivers and fathers to prevent violence against children and women and to promote gender equality. It was designed and developed by its authors for use by health workers, social activists, nonprofit organizations (NGOs), educators and other individuals and institutions that aim to promote men’s involvement as caregivers as one of multiple strategies to promote maternal and child health, family well-being and gender equality.

 How can training be made personal and accessible to a wide range of community members and service providers? Raising Voices developed this Training Guide to serve as a tool for strengthening the capacity of NGO staff, community members and service providers to prevent domestic violence. The training process can be used as: A series of training sessions that can be used individually or as a part of a longer process. A practical tool for trainers and activists who want to begin a process of change in their community and encourages discussion and ideas for action to prevent domestic violence.

The Resource Guide is Raising Voices’ first methodology, globally one of the first long-term, documented approaches for community-based domestic violence prevention. Designed for activist organizations, the Resource Guide: provides an accessible and practical description of systematic community mobilization to prevent domestic violence; offers resources that assist organizations to plan, implement and monitor a violence prevention project; suggests a structure for facilitating social change through the active participation and leadership of a cross section of community members; and includes a variety of low-cost activities and gives practical examples of learning materials, training events, and documentation and monitoring ideas for direct use or to inspire further ideas. The Guide is organized into five phases of community mobilization with detailed guides for planning, implementing and monitoring each phase. 

This Training Manual explores core concepts related to gender-based violence (GBV); survivors' needs; the causes and consequences of GBV; GBV and the law; staff training needs; and the role of men and boys in breaking the cycle of violence. The manual was developed by Restless Development Sierra Leone, a youth-led development agency that places young people at the forefront of change and development. Its community mobilization strategies aim to raise awareness on and increase access to justice for survivors of gender-based violence.

This  paper is an important input into the debate and work on gender and sexual abuse. The paper discusses the root causes of child sexual abuse and suggests ways of addressing it through a rights perspective. It provides special focus on working with men and boys to end child sexual abuse.

This guide for Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and governments aims to support the review and updating of existing policies to ensure they fully engage men and boys in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and HIV/AIDS. This toolkit has been prepared to help organizations create affi rmative policies which promote the positive roles that men can play in improving their own sexual and reproductive health – and those of women and children. The toolkit explains why this is important and how to achieve it. It also highlights how engaging men in sexual and reproductive health and rights and HIV policies, is not simply a goal in its own right, but can help move towards the goal of gender equity.

This  advocacy brief explores the importance of changing social norms related to men's ideas and behaviors and examines several questions: Can men support gender equality and learn to live gender-equitable lives? Can men transform the ideas and practices they associate with manhood? Can the spheres where men and boys are socialized and often learn inequitable norms – home, school, work, sports, religion, the media, and others – be changed?
