GTCoP - Community of Practice Training for Gender Equality

This manual is a tool that aims to assist women holding political office for the first time in their local municipality. It seeks to support them to carry out their roles as local elected officials, navigate decision-making and the public arena. It engages with a number of issues to enable women to transform inequitable political structures and models that relegate them to the background and, consequently, to create a fairer and more equal social model.

This toolkit provides a framework for discussion among members of parliament, decision-makers in the parliamentary administration and parliamentary staff. It enables them to self-assess their strengths and weaknesses, in order to determine priorities for strengthening the institution through greater gender-sensitivity. The discussion evoked by such self-assessment should lead to a shared vision of the priorities for parliamentary development and then to recommendations for action.

This leadership training manual seeks to build the capacity of indigenous peoples’ leaders, communities and organizations to lead and manage their organizations. The training focuses on knowledge and skills related to leadership principles and organizational management. It also includes skills on advocacy for the recognition of indigenous women’s and men’s rights, on community development and management of projects and activities and facilitation skills. The document’s annexes contain context papers, case studies, real experiences and samples of organizational structures, which may be used and adapted as references, models or examples by facilitators.

This handbook is aimed at encouraging political party leaders to support the integration of gender aspects into internal political party decision-making processes. In this way, it aims to support opportunities for women to advance as leaders within parties and as candidates for elected office. Thus, it seeks to develop the capacity of women politicians to advance their political careers. The handbook provides an overview of voluntary measures that political parties can adopt to enhance gender equality within party structures, processes, policies and activities, as a means to provide both women and men equal opportunities to participate meaningfully in political life.

This handbook for electoral management bodies (EMBs) offers strategies and entry points to assist EMBs in removing existing barriers for youth electoral participation, including in terms of national legal and political frameworks and youth’s lack of confidence in national institutions. The publication also explores how EMBs can make electoral processes more inclusive and peaceful. It links these objectives to the outcomes and indicators of SDGs, particularly Goal 16 on "peace, justice and strong institutions". 

This training guide is a tool for trainers and facilitators to teach children aged 8-12 in the Middle East about concepts related to gender equality through interactive, educational games and exercises. It seeks to engage with this pivotal age group to understand the issues of gender equality, gender roles and violence against women. The kit includes a training guide composed of 10 games, a referential guide entitled “What do I need to know about gender equality,” and a number of support items (e.g. posters, stickers and colouring sheets, etc.).

This toolkit is intended for the use of change makers working with men and women from their communities to support change in knowledge and attitudes on gender equality and women’s political participation. It provides them with a series of tools for facilitating discussion during one-on-one conversations, meetings, and awareness-raising events. These tools include information for women’s rights globally and in the Arab region, a guide on how to answer frequently asked questions, and simple facilitation techniques (prompting questions, quizzes, etc.).

This publication offers a short account of the WPP’s “Train-the-Trainers” initiative for men and women peacemakers in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The publication recounts key points from the training, underscoring its focus on gender-sensitive peace-building and mainstreaming a masculinities perspective in this work; highlighting the experience of trainees; taking note of several tools, methods and resources employed; and sharing insights from participants.

This training curriculum builds the knowledge and skills of women from civil society to participate in security sector reform and advocacy. It’s a companion to A Women’s Guide to Security Sector Reform, by DCAF and Inclusive Security. The goal of this curriculum is to support and empower women to participate in dialogue and decision-making to create a security sector that is more effective and accountable. It addresses the concepts of security, the security sector, security sector reform, gender and gender equality, and the links between them. Also covered are skills for planning, research, building coalitions, developing recommendations, and advocacy around the security sector, as well as monitoring and evaluating those efforts. This curriculum - which includes 17 four hour-long modules - is for experienced facilitators and trainers who design workshops and trainings for women (including those in the security sector) and civil society organizations. 

This  guide for women in civil society provides concrete steps on how to develop a security sector that is effective and accountable. Published by the Institute for Inclusive Security and the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of the Armed Forces (DCAF), the guide is directed at women who have not formally studied security or worked with the security sector and draws on varied experiences of women in civil society from across the world. In addition to introducing key concepts in security and SSR, it outlines concrete ways for women in civil society to get involved and influence reform from the grassroots. It includes specific steps on how to research security issues, form coalitions of like-minded citizens, plan strategically, develop recommendations, advocate, and engage directly with security actors. It also contains practical tools for women to take action, such as talking points for meetings with policymakers, group activities to identify local security risks, and definitions of security jargon.
