Description: Description
This sourcebook features critical reviews of gender training from the perspective of practitioners in different regions: South Asia, Eastern and Southern Africa, as well as a national case study from South Africa. Each review covers approaches and experiences, 'grey' literature, and published articles and books. The sourcebook also includes an overview of mainstream publications; annotated bibliographies on gender analysis and gender training; and regional and national sources. Through the context-specific issues raised by each contributor, the document sheds light on what gender training is all about – exploring not just the differences, but also the commonalities of experience, constraints and goals.
This manual offers field-tested training activities and handouts, shaped into an overall training programme that draws on the work of gender trainers from across the globe. These activities relate to awareness and self-awareness of gender; gender roles and needs; gender-sensitive appraisal and planning; gender and major global issues; working with counterparts on gender issues; and strategies for change. The manual provides instructions for each activity, as well as facilitator’s notes and a resources section. It reflects Oxfam's experience of using gender training in the implementation of gender policy, as a tool for developing thought and action in a transformational manner.
