In Canada, we believe the government should not discriminate against its citizens. We are all equal. And there are many training processes, policies established, and decisions made based on gender equality. Unfortunately, there is still much ignorance in society. And in government, as with most people, they have their own agenda or perspective. In a perfect world, gender mainstreaming practice would be a great reference point for all decisions. Too bad we lack the accountability to ensure this is the case.
I know; I have been on many executive boards where gender-based analysis training is essential for service. I believe for any organization to truly benefit from such knowledge it must start at the top with support in place to establish a culture that respects gender equality.
