GTCoP - Community of Practice Training for Gender Equality

This training package is a standalone capacity building programme that targets government officials and climate change practitioners, focusing on integrating gender into climate change adaptation (CCA) practices. It is designed to be a flexible series of modules on gender and climate change that can be applied in various short courses and workshops delivered by ICCCAD. It aims to provide international climate change practitioners with case studies and practical knowledge on how gender relates to CCA and how gender considerations can be incorporated into CCA policies, strategies and project proposals. The package was developed by the USAID Adapt Asia-Pacific project in collaboration with the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD)—based at the Independent University, Bangladesh. 

This training manual provides trainers, policy makers and practitioners with background information to inform the development of gender-sensitive climate change mitigation measures and includes material to conduct training on gender and climate change. It introduces the nexus of gender and climate change, examines the climate policy landscape, looks at how to make climate finance work for inclusive mitigation, explains how to mainstream gender from policies to projects, and includes useful icebreakers and energizers. The manual is based on workshops on gender and climate change held in Cambodia, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and Viet Nam in the context of the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) regional technical assistance (RETA) programme, entitled "Harnessing Climate Change Mitigation Initiatives to Benefit Women".

This manual contains everything required to conduct a three-hour gender training workshop, especially as part of a larger development project. Participants will reflect on their own gender perceptions, critically discuss gender roles at home and in the community, and develop bargaining skills through role play. The activities and discussions arose from science-based learning theories, with the intent of radically flattening predominant top-down communication structures.

This training manual has been developed to provide an introduction to the policy framework on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (UNSCR 1325) and its follow-up resolutions, the concept of gender and its practical application in the context of the European Union's Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) for both civilian and military personnel. The manual supports three key learning objectives: to familiarize participants with key components of the UN and EU policy framework on UNSCR 1325 and its follow-up resolutions, to give examples that show why gender is an important perspective in the work/context of a CSDP mission and to apply a gender perspective through a simple gender analysis. The training manual is composed of six training units.

This publication aims to provide trainers, practitioners, and policy makers of environment and gender mainstreaming agencies an understanding of key concepts and approaches to gender-responsive mitigation measures, strategies, and policies. It covers key concepts on gender and climate change and concludes with step-by-step guidelines for policy and decision makers to mainstream gender into climate policies and projects, with practical tools and exercises to support training on gender and climate change. This manual is based on a series of workshops held in Cambodia, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, and Viet Nam and models the Asian Development Bank’s operational approach of integrated country-driven climate responses in enabling gender-responsive climate action. It accommodates readers and training participants who are not familiar with climate change issues or gender concepts, and case studies provided can be adjusted to the country context.

This toolkit focuses both on advancing gender equality within security and justice institutions and how the security and justice sector can help to achieve gender equality and women, peace and security goals within society. Drawing on the past decade of policy innovation and best practices, the tools highlight what success looks like and how it can be achieved. Each of the tools is a handy, practical resource that sets out effective ways to work toward gender equality, including through inclusive leadership, gender analysis, gender training, improving women’s participation, strengthening oversight, and collaboration with civil society. Each tool features concrete experiences from around the world—in national reform processes, in international missions, and in local projects.

This publication focuses on training as preventive intervention, particularly in the workplace. Adequate training dislodges entrenched and discriminatory ideas on gender—fundamental to promote cultural change to end sexual harassment. Evidence has shown that current training on sexual harassment is largely ineffective and sometimes appears to prompt resistance in some (male and female) trainees. This paper analyses what makes training against sexual harassment both effective and transformative.

The handbook is based on and complements existing global and country-specific handbooks and training materials for law enforcement. It covers in depth areas such as: gender-responsive police investigations; prevention; intersectionality; survivor-centred approaches; promoting positive masculinities; coordination; institution-building; and emerging issues such as online and ICT-facilitated violence against women and girls. The handbook also includes guidance on responding to violence against women and girls during crises, including pandemics. The target audience for the guidance is police middle managers; however, it can equally be used to engage senior management on institutional transformation and training for frontline responders, in police academies and ‘refresher courses’. The handbook was developed by UN Women, under the framework of the UN Joint Global Programme on Essential Services, in partnership with UNODC and the IAWP. 

This training manual is designed for actors involved in preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE) in Europe and Central Asia, including state officials, members of non-governmental organizations, community activists, staff of UN agencies, international and regional organizations, to help them understand violent extremism’s gender dimensions. It is designed as a training guide for staff and trainers who are working with different counterparts engaged in P/CVE and want to help create more effective and gender-sensitive responses. The five modules in this guide include learning objectives, explanatory text, warm-up activities, practical exercises, references for further reading, and empirical experiences.

The Gender Champions Training Manual is developed as part of Save the Children’s “School Me” approach to improving girls’ education in West Africa. It is designed for use with adults, but may be modified for use with adolescents and youth. The Gender Champions workshop is intended to stimulate reflection on participants’ own gender biases, and to use those reflections as a basis for discussion that leads to concrete behavior change. The principal audience of this training is Save the Children staff, including programme, operations and support teams.
