GTCoP - Community of Practice Training for Gender Equality

The WPS-YES! Learning Pack is a resource for use by trainers and facilitators seeking to raise awareness and strengthen implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda based on the context in Timor-Leste. The pack features a compilation of training modules developed collaboratively over a one year period by over 15 national and international NGOs, UN agencies and other development partners working on women, Peace and Security issues in Timor-Leste. The Learning Pack can be used by facilitators with varying levels of training experience and is divided into a Facilitator’s Guide and four modules. The first module is intended to provide a foundational understanding of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, with a focus on the development of a National Action Plan based on UN SCR 1325 for Timor-Leste. Modules 2, 3, and 4 provide deeper training into the four pillars commonly identified with the Women, Peace and Security Agenda: Participation (Module 2); Protection & Prevention (Module 3), and Peacebuilding (Module 4). The Pack includes detailed guidance for facilitator’s as well as supplementary handouts, videos and links to other relevant resource materials.

The Training of Trainers module on Women’s Access to Justice provides guidance for judges to include a gender perspective when adjudicating cases involving women who have come into conflict with the law.  It provides information about international human rights law and guidance on implementing these standards in a national context. It also addresses issues and barriers that Indonesian women face in accessing justice and provides examples and recommendation of dealing with these cases. The module was developed by UN Women with the members of the Judicial Women and Children’s working group of the Indonesian Supreme Court, High Court Judges, and the trainers of the Supreme Court Training Centre.

This training package on Gender and Preventing Violent Extremism is designed to increase the understanding of the critical role gender can play in understanding, addressing and preventing violent extremism (PVE). It is intended to support women’s organizations and civil society in their ongoing work on PVE, and related fields of women, peace and security. The training package is designed for use in Indonesia and Bangladesh, as well as South and Southeast Asia. Audiences for trainings may include local communities, civil society organizations, government agencies, and others.

This Resource Pack for the Orientation of Justice Sector Stakeholders has been developed by UN Women Pakistan to orient justice sector officials in Pakistan for understanding the process of legal aid/ assistance/ advice, client handling, and management of cases of Gender-Based Violence for better dispensation of justice. It explores pro-women laws and legislative provisions and serves as a reference guide that can be adapted to respond to the needs of each particular audience. It aims to help justice sector stakeholders to understand that violence against women is not just a personal matter but a structural/ institutional issue, because it holds back half of the population from achieving their basic human rights and reaching their full potential. 

UN Women Pakistan has developed this Training Manual on Enhancing Attitudes of Police towards Survivors of Violence Against Women with the aim to enhance the capacity of law enforcement officials for understanding gender dynamics and issues related to violence against women as well as dealing with VAW cases. The activities of this manual are designed with practical exercises and can be used by national and provincial police departments, police training academies and other organizations as a guide to orient and sensitize law enforcement officials for attitude and behavior change through imparting information regarding concepts, laws, mechanisms, and procedures for dealing with cases of VAW.

This toolkit provides a grounding in risk control and business continuity, with particular reference to the COVID-19 pandemic response. With its step-by-step guidance, checklist, and various tools, the toolkit becomes a self-learning tool for SME leaders across the world, so that they can better address risks and build their own gender- responsive business continuity management system. Originally designed for women SME entrepreneurs in China, it has been developed to be broadly applicable. Thus, it will be beneficial for SME leaders across the world, and serve as a group training guide for practitioners, SME trainers and business supporting agencies that aim to promote a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable business environment. The toolkit was developed by UN Women with the China Centre for Promotion of SME Development.

The purpose of this training package is to build the capacity of prosecutors on providing quality and holistic responses to survivors of violence, and to better understand survivor’s perspectives, experiences, to bring them justice and address their needs. The goal of this training is that gender-transformative, trauma informed and survivor-centered approaches are utilized in prosecution and that gender biases are addressed, to ensure that the legal system supports survivors of violence against women in a respectful and empowering way. The curriculum includes common key principles and considerations for all prosecutors working with survivors of violence, and includes practical step-by-step instructions for trainers, as well as exercises, and handouts with case studies. The package was developed through a partnership between Global Rights for Women and the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.

These three training modules developed by UNODC and UN Women aim to strengthen the capacity of law enforcement to apply a gender-responsive and victim centered approach to carry out investigations related to trafficking in persons and other criminal activities. With the generous support of the Government of Canada, the modules have been piloted in several countries in Southeast Asia. The training curricula has been compiled into three Facilitation Handbooks which includes detailed instructions on the content, interactive exercises, and method of the trainings. 

This facilitator’s handbook contains experiences and knowledge shared by women peace activists in Myanmar working in the field of women, peace and security This publication was originally conceived by UN Women under the UN Women Centering Women and their priorities in Myanmar’s Peace Process: Implementing the United Nations Security Council Resolution and Related Resolutions 1325 funded by the Norwegian Ministry for Foreign Affairs. This facilitator’s handbook is designed for women peace activists and women leaders. Its purpose is to empower women leaders and women peace activists by giving them the necessary tools that will not only promote and increase their effective participation in the peace processes but equip them with the information and techniques to train other women peace activists.
