These guidelines seek to bring gender to the centre of development cooperation programmes and assist DAC members in fulfilling the commitments of the Beijing Platform for Action. Reflecting the change from a "women in development" approach to a broader gender approach, the guidelines offer recommendations for donors and other stakeholders; take stock of gender equality’s role in development partnerships and development cooperation approaches; highlight the links between gender equality and other economic, social and environmental development goals; and outline ways of monitoring progress on the guidelines’ implementation.
