INSTRAW Library

Welcome to the INSTRAW LIBRARY, a compilation of around 600 publications produced by the former UN International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (UN-INSTRAW), which served as the leading UN institute devoted to research, training and knowledge management to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment. INSTRAW, along with DAW, OSAGI and UNIFEM, came together in 2010 to establish the present UN Women.

The Legacy of INSTRAW

In addition to the INSTRAW Library, the UN Women Training Centre presents the publication “The legacy of INSTRAW in promoting the rights of women. A historical record of the Institute between 1976 and 2010”, which intends to pay tribute to the story of INSTRAW as well as to the women’s movements and governments which supported it.

Este informe resume el taller organizado por el INSTRAW en colaboración con el Instituto Ecuatoriano de Investigaciones y Capacitación de la Mujer (IECAIM) en  Ecuador, Quito del 27  de Noviembre-Diciembre 1989. Analiza la situación de la mujer ecuatoriana y su participación en el desarrollo abordandose los siguientes temas: las fuentes principales de información estadística para medir la participación de la mujer en el desarrollo, las necesidades de estadísticas sobre la mujer en la planificación del desarrollo nacional, la contribución económica de la mujer y las estadísticas y la utilización de las estadísticas existentes en trabajos desarrollados para mejorar la situación de la mujer.

Description: This report provides a background and a summary of the suggestions and recommendations for action which emerged from two weeks of discussions and workshops in a seminar convened in Nicosia, Cyprus. The seminar created a venue for the exchange of ideas and experiences on the problem of women's access to credit which has been aggravated by the adverse effects of national economic austerity programmes. There is an attempt to reverse this negative impact through the development of innovative banking techniques particularly in rural areas where the situation appears to be worst.

Esta publicación presenta una síntesis del taller que fue realizado en Caracas, Venezuela, los días 23 y 24 de mayo de 1991, sobre la situación de las estadísticas de la mujer en Venezuela. En este taller se analizaron  aspectos conceptuales en los que existe un sesgo sexista y fue señalada la necesidad de producir datos numéricos confiables que permitan comparar la desigualdad entre mujeres y hombres.
